The Union of Turkish Bar Associations (TBB) held its 38th general congress on Dec. 8.

The delegates of the association reelected the current head Erinç Sağkan who ran against lawyers Emrah Yavuzcan and Mehmet Zahit Söylemez.

Out of the valid 347 votes of the delegates, Sağkan received 309 of them, Yavuzcan 11 and Söylemez 10.

In his speech, Sağkan said, “With the work we have done in these 3 years, we have shown that by producing together, by fighting together, we have not let down those who supported us, those who believed in us, and those who hoped for this country.”

Sağkan then thanked the delegates.

Three years ago in the congress, Sağkan defeated former union president Metin Feyzioğlu who is now Turkey’s ambassador to Prague. Sağkan's election was welcomed by the opposition at the time.
