Singer deported from Turkey to Iran sentenced to death

The Iranian Supreme Court has sentenced Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo, the singer known as Tataloo, to death. 

Tataloo had previously been sentenced to five years in prison. According to Iranian media, after an appeal by the prosecutor, the Iranian Supreme Court ruled to convict Tataloo on charges including "blasphemy."

According to The Guardian, the Iranian newspaper Etemad reported that the High Court accepted the prosecutor's appeal against Tataloo's 5-year prison sentence for "blasphemy." 

The case was reopened, and Tataloo was now sentenced to death on charges of "insulting the Prophet Muhammad." The report indicated that the ruling can be appealed.

Tataloo, who belongs to Iran's underground hip-hop scene, had lived in Turkey for many years before being extradited back to Iran in Dec. 2023. He has been detained ever since.

Previously, Tataloo had been sentenced to 10 years in prison for "prostitution" and faced additional charges of "spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic" and publishing "obscene content."
