The curfew began at 9 p.m. Jan. 15 and is set to end at 5 a.m. Jan. 18 local time. 

The expected heavy snowfall began on Jan. 16.

In the city, which has been under the influence of rainy weather for the last week, snow and slush are showing their effects.

The officials of the country's meteorology directorate had said at the beginning of the week that the heavy snowfall expected in the Marmara Region would be effective in Istanbul during the weekend.
