Turkey's Court of Cassation ruled that a man who neglected his wife during her pregnancy and labor was "completely at fault" in their divorce proceedings, and mandated he pay damages. His neglect was deemed insulting to his wife's rights, the court ruling said, ordering he also pay emotional damages.

Turkey's Court of Cassation ruled that a husband's neglect of his wife during her pregnancy and labor constituted fault in their divorce proceedings, and mandated that he pay the woman damages, Turkish agencies reported on Dec. 18.
"The man is entirely at fault for staying out of the house until late hours, not allowing his wife and mother in law in the house, staying out of the house overnight, and not being with his wife even on special occasions," the court ruling noted.
The ruling added that the man's behavior was insulting to the his ex-wife's personal rights, mandating he pay additional emotional damages.
The man reportedly spent most of his time at work or with his friends, and expressed disinterest in returning to his home.
