Turkey blocks access to Discord

Turkey announced that it blocked access to Discord after launching an investigation into groups accused of violence, extortion, and sexual assault against children and women organized on the platform.

Turkish authorities on Oct. 9 blocked access to the instant messaging and social media platform Discord.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has previously announced that an investigation had been launched into groups accused of violence, extortion, and sexual assault against children and women on the Discord application.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also stated that two minors had been taken into custody after it was determined that they were the moderators of a group involving sexual abuse against children.

Following the investigations, access to Discord was blocked by a decision from the Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace.
