Turkey closes off Olympics with no gold medals for first time in 40 years
Turkey completed the 2024 Olympic Games with three silver and five bronze medals. The country snagged medals in women’s boxing, shooting, archery, and wrestling; coming 64th among the 84 competing countries. This was the first Games in 40 years that the country finished with zero gold medals.
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games concluded on Aug. 11, with Turkey finishing the event with three silver and five bronze medals. Turkey failed to win a gold medal for the first time since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
In women's boxing, Turkey secured two silver and one bronze medal. Hatice Akbaş and Buse Naz Çakıroğlu (pictured) lost in their final matches, earning silver medals, while Esra Yıldız Kahraman won her third-place match to claim a bronze medal.
In the shooting competition, the mixed ten-meter air pistol team, consisting of Şevval İlayda Tarhan (L) and Yusuf Dikeç (R), lost to Serbia in the semifinals and won a silver medal.
The men's archery team, featuring the reigning Olympic champion Mete Gazoz (R), along with Ulaş Berkim Tümer (C) and Abdullah Yıldırmış (L), earned a bronze medal. The team brought Turkey its first medal on the third day of the Games.
