President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan laid a wreath at Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the Turkish Republic's founder Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in the capital Ankara.
Among the attendees were also main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli, senior government and high-ranking military officials.
"Honorable Atatürk, we are once again in your presence on the 99th anniversary of the great victory, one of the golden bricks on the way to our independence. On this historical day, we remember your excellency and honorable martyrs," Erdoğan wrote in the memorial guest book at Anıtkabir.
The national holiday is also considered a day to honor the Turkish military, with dozens of military personnel attending the official ceremony at Anıtkabir.
