Turkey sees 39 pct rise in individuals facing legal action over credit debts

The number of individuals who were under legal follow-up due to not making loan and credit card payments on time increased by approximately 39% in the January-November period of 2024, reaching 1.66 million people.

According to the Risk Center of the Turkish Banks Association, the number of individuals who have been under legal follow-up due to unpaid credit and credit card debts has reached 1.663 million, up from 1.197 million at the end of 2023. 

This represents an increase of approximately 39% in the number of individuals entering legal follow-up compared to the previous year.

In addition, the number of individuals falling into legal follow-up due to credit and credit card debts in December 2024 was reported as 255,000. This figure was 190,000 in November 2024 and 192,000 in December 2023.

As of November 2024, loans in individual credit cards and personal loans increased by 146% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 116 billion Turkish liras ($3.3B).
