The drugs were hidden in a banana container in the Liberia flagged ship, Mersin Governor's Office said of the operation carried out by customs teams. 

Trade Minister Mehmet Muş commented on the drug bust, saying that it's the biggest carried out in Turkey, while also congratulating the teams.

There were 1,000 packages in the said banana container and an investigation is ongoing, authorities said. 

Mersin deputy police chief Murat Cihan told reporters that they had been working on the drug bust for a month.
