Turkey to deport Japanese man for eating kittens

Turkey will deport a Japanese man, who confessed to collecting and eating kittens in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district.

A Japanese man who confessed to collecting and eating kittens in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district will be deported, Turkish authorities have said.

Kittens have been going missing for the past three years in the neighborhood that the Japanese man, identified only as D.M., was living and a resident of the area noticed that D.M. was collecting kittens at around 5 a.m.

The resident then notified police of the incident and D.M. was taken to police headquarters, where he confessed to killing and eating the cats. He was fined 10,375 liras and was later sent to a migration center to be deported.

His neighbors, meanwhile, tried to lynch him after finding out that he has been eating kittens.

Yasin Öztürk, who had been taking care of the killed kittens, told Demirören News Agency that he never thought someone could have eaten the cats.

"I didn't get suspicious at first. I couldn't believe that someone would kill kittens," Öztürk said.

"I don't know his current whereabouts, but we don't want him here. This is against our humanity. We want him deported as soon as possible," he added.
