Turkey’s northeastern province of Artvin’s Yusufeli district has been submerged underwater because of the new dam construction.
The dam started to collect water and submerged roads and buildings. The electricity production from the dam will start on May 29, 2023.
The residents of the districts looked at their memories and houses for the last time from afar.
The district was relocated for the seventh time in its 153-year history.
Saying that his house and garden submerged underwater, the shopkeeper Muzaffer Cellat stated "Here, we are watching our past, our 55-year-old house and garden that has been flooded. I can hardly stop myself from crying. I worked as a shopkeeper for 55 years. Currently, the water has reached the first floor of my house.”
