Turkish asylum seekers flock to Germany, marking 203 pct increase in applications
According to Germany’s Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), asylum applications from Turkey to Germany increased by 203 percent in the first seven months of this year compared to last year.

According to the latest statistics released by Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), a total of 23,846 asylum applications were made from Turkey to Germany between January and July.
Applications from Turkey increased by 202.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to reporting of Deutsche Welle Turkish.
After Syria and Afghanistan, Turkish citizens come third in the total number of applications. In 2022, Turkish citizens ranked third with a total of 23,938 applicants.
So far, German authorities decided on 12,174 asylum applications from Turkey. According to BAMF data, the acceptance rate for Turkish citizens corresponds to 15 percent. Turkey also comes third from last in acceptance rate after Georgia and Russia among the top 10 countries with most applications.
As the political and economic situation have worsened in the country, more and more Turkish citizen seeks asylum in European countries and the United States. More than 26,000 Turks have applied for asylum to the European Union in the January-June 2023 period, an EU official told ANKA News Agency.
Some 33,000 Turkish citizens have entered the United States via the Mexican border over the past 18 months according to Voice of America.
