Turkish Capital Markets Board launches investigation into unusual movements in Borsa Istanbul
Turkey's Capital Markets Board (SPK) has announced an investigation into extraordinary price movements on Borsa Istanbul and misleading news that may have caused them.

The Capital Markets Board of Turkey (SPK) on Feb. 21 announced an investigation into unusual price fluctuations in Borsa Istanbul (BIST), as well as misleading news that may have contributed to abnormal price and volume movements.
In a statement, SPK said, “Our board has launched an investigation into the extraordinary price movements observed in the BIST equity market. The transactions of all institutions are being reviewed by both our board and Borsa Istanbul Inc.”
The statement emphasized that any actions or transactions that disrupt the security, transparency, and stability of the capital markets would be met with legal and/or administrative sanctions under the country's Capital Markets Law.
Additionally, SPK announced immediate legal action against individuals or entities responsible for spreading misleading or manipulative news contributing to the unusual market activity.
The BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul dropped by 2.09% on Feb. 21, closing at 9,602.16 points. The index fell by 205.34 points from the previous close, with a total trading volume of 107.8 billion Turkish liras.
