Turkish climber 'marries' Mount Ararat to protest violence against women
Turkish climber Sevgül Eraslan held a symbolic ceremony to "marry" Mount Ararat in protest of the plague of violence against women and children in Turkey.
Turkish climber Sevgül Eraslan held a symbolic marriage ceremony on July 27 with Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey in an attempt to protest the epidemic of violence against women in the country.
"I condemn violence and discrimination that women and children suffer from. They deserve unconditional love and respect in all areas of life," Eraslan said.
"We see all forms of abuse and know that the honorable thing to do is to take a stance against it," Eraslan added.
Some 18 women were killed by men in June, while 20 others died under suspicious conditions, according to a report by We Will Stop Femicides Platform.
