Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Jan. 9 gave a speech during the New Generation Storm (Fırtına) Howitzer Delivery Ceremony at one of the buildings of the National Defense Ministry.
In his speech, Erdoğan once again targeted the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
“They go to America, to England, to Germany, begging for help from foreign economic commissioners. We, on the other hand, put these giant works into service with our own engineers, our own workers, locally and nationally,” Erdoğan said, referring to Kılıçdaroğlu’s latest visits to those countries to secure loans for Turkey.
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) commanders were seen applauding Erdoğan’s remarks targeting Kılıçdaroğlu.
Kılıçdaroğlu on Jan. 10 heavily criticized commanders who applauded Erdoğan’s remarks.
“Yesterday it showed that the state is decaying. Soldiers were applauding Erdoğan’s lies. I never want the military to applaud me. Commanders, know your place, politics is not the soldier's business. If they want involve in politics, they should take off the holy uniform, align themselves with Erdoğan,” Kılıçdaroğlu said during his party’s parliamentary group meeting.
