An Istanbul court has accepted an indictment seeking to prison Orhan Turan, president of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD), and Mehmet Ömer Arif Aras, head of the association’s High Advisory Council.
As part of an investigation, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office prepared the indictment against the two over their remarks criticizing the government over the charge of "publicly spreading misleading information."
Last month, the top business group’s executives criticized the judicial inconsistencies and some other problems in the country in an association meeting, and urged for judicial independence.
The indictment seeks from one year, 10 months to five years, three months in prison for each.
The police temporarily detained them last month as the court barred them from traveling internationally under judicial control measures.
