Turkish court arrests historian for 'insulting' Erdoğan
A Turkish court has arrested historian Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör over “insulting” President Erdoğan in her social media post.

An Istanbul court on Jan. 31 arrested Turkish academic and historian Çiğdem Bayraktar Ör over the charge of “insulting the President” in her social media post.
The police detained her on Jan. 30 in line with an investigation initiated by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
She is facing charges of “insulting the President” and ”insulting a public official because of their duty” for her social media post,” state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Previously, main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) Istanbul branch head Özgür Çelik criticized her detention and said, “We will continue to stand in solidarity against the oppressive order that is being tried to be established.”
