Turkish court panel suspended after releasing last jailed suspect in fatal brawl case

Turkey’s top judicial body has suspended three judges and one prosecutor hearing a case regarding a fatal brawl in İzmir province. The move came after the court panel released the last jailed suspect in the latest hearing.

Turkey’s Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has suspended three judges and one prosecutor after the court panel released the last jailed suspect in a fatal brawl case, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 18

Accordingly, the officials were hearing a case regarding a fatal brawl in which Semih Kenan Köse was stabbed to death in a market in İzmir’s Altıntaş neighborhood in October 2023.

Three brother suspects were initially arrested over the charge of “intentional killing in complicity” for life imprisonment.

In the first hearing, Serkan B. and Taylan B. were released. In the latest hearing held on Sept. 17 in İzmir 3rd High Criminal Court, the court panel released the last jailed suspect Sercan B.

On Sept. 18, the HSK suspended the presiding judge, two member judges, and the trial prosecutor after the decision.

Meanwhile, İzmir 3rd High Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Sercan B. upon the objection of the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
