Turkish gov’t rises public nursing home fees by over 300 pct

In an official letter dated Aug. 29 sent to public nursing homes and elderly care rehabilitation centers across the country, Turkey’s Family and Social Services Ministry stated that fees would be increased by more than 300 percent due to “increasing costs in elderly care.”

In the official notice, it was requested that increased rates be applied starting from September. Accordingly, the price for a single room, which was 3,551 Turkish liras, has been adjusted to 10,652 liras, while the per-person rate for a double room, previously 3,110 TRY, have been now risen to 9,331 liras.

The price for a suite room shared by couples in nursing homes, which was previously 4,834 liras, has been increased by 360 percent to 17,336 liras. For a double suite room, the price per person has risen from 4,437 liras to 13,309 liras.

The lowest pension for civil servants is 17,587 liras, while the minimum pension for other retirees is 12,500 liras.
