Turkish journalist Nihat Genç was ridiculed on social media for claiming that the lira's downfall is behind singer Bartu Küçükçağlayan's decision to wear a skirt.
Genç, who recently targeted a comedian and paved the way for Turkey's media watchdog to fine an online platform, said that the effect of the lira's collapse shows itself in the society and in this case, Küçükçağlayan's skirt.
"I'm telling you that the damage is serious," Genç tweeted on Dec. 28.
Bartu Küçükçağlayan adlı şarkıcı sahneye yeşil etekle çıkıyor, magazin dünyası yıkılıyor, 'Ne olmuş canım, bir dolar fırtınasıydı, geldi geçti, indi çıktı, ne olmuş ki' diyenlere gelsin, hasar çok ağır diyorum, fırtına delmiş geçmiş, işte hortum sonrası memleketten manzaralar: pic.twitter.com/X9Eu8FaHbs

Social media users ridiculed Genç and asked what Küçükçağlayan's skirt has to do with Turkey's economy.
"Bartu should be tried for not wearing a crop top with that skirt," said one user in response.
"I think the skirt is too long," said another.
Some users slammed Genç for his toxic masculinity.
