The furniture in the office room of Antalya's Döşemealtı Mayor Menderes Dal from the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) was seized because the debt of approximately 100 million Turkish liras ($2.95M) to the creditor company was not paid.
The company, from which the municipality received services in return for 70 million liras, applied to the enforcement office, claiming that it could not collect its receivables approaching 100 million liras with interest, according to the news of Anadolu Agency.
Evaluating the application, the enforcement office approved the request of the creditor company to seize the assets in the mayoral office.
After the meeting with Mayor Dal on Aug. 20, the office chair, desk, computer, sofa group, television, massage chair, cupboard, and chandeliers were seized from his office.
After the seizure of the furniture, Mayor Menderes Dal of Döşemealtı shared a photo of himself in his now-empty office, standing on a local woven carpet, on the municipality’s social media accounts.
1.5 milyarlık borcu biz yaratmadık. "Devlette devamlılık esastır" anlayışıyla mali disiplini kurmaya çalıştık. In a video statement, Dal said, "During our 4.5 months of municipal administration, we have been transparent. We will continue to be transparent. The work we have done in Döşemealtı, which we inherited with a debt of 1.5 billion liras, is now showing results.”
The mayor added, “Municipal operations are not carried out in the municipality office, they are carried out on the streets. We will show this to all of you.”
