Turkish man stabs police officer on Istiklal Avenue

A 34-year-old man stabbed a police officer on Istanbul’s famous Istiklal Avenue. While the police officer was lightly injured, the man was caught later in the day.

A 34-year-old Turkish man on Oct. 12 stabbed a police officer on Istanbul’s iconic Istiklal Avenue during the day.

The camera footage of the incident shows that the man approached the officer from the back and stabbed him in the nape.

The 34-year-old man with the initials O.I. was later caught in the Kasımpaşa neighborhood, the Istanbul police announced.

“The person had a criminal record for using drugs, and disturbing the peace and tranquility of people, and he was undergoing psychological treatment,” the statement added.

The police officer is lightly injured and receiving treatment in a hospital.
