Turkish opposition CHP municipal council member dies five days after being attacked

Mustafa Can Ekiciler, a CHP municipal council member in Tekirdağ’s Süleymanpaşa district, died five days after being shot in the face following a quarrel.

A municipal council member of the Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Mustafa Can Ekiciler, on Aug. 24 lost his life five days after being attacked.

On Aug. 19, Ekiciler was shot in the face in a gas station in Tekirdağ province after a quarrel between him and a group of three people. The reason for the quarrel remains unknown as three people were detained after the incident.

Ekiciler died at Namık Kemal University Hospital where he had been receiving treatment for five days.

He was a CHP council member of Tekirdağ’s Süleymanpaşa Municipality.
