Turkish parliament establishes commission to investigate 'sea snot' outbreak
Turkish parliament on June 10 established a commission of inquiry to investigate the recent "sea snot" crisis. The move came after all the parties in parliament submitted a motion in demand of such a commission.
With the participation of all political parties, a commission has been established in parliament to investigate the "sea snot" outbreak -- a jelly-like layer of slime that develops on the surface of the water due to the excessive proliferation of phytoplankton.
A total of 19 members will be assigned to the commission which will hold meetings to identify the cause of the crisis and find solutions to it.
The commission will talk with experts and academics and conduct field analysis. At the end of a three-month-long period, the commission will present a report to the public.
On June 10, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan chaired a meeting of an academic committee formed by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) for the solution of the "sea snot" crisis in the Marmara Sea.
