The Turkish Parliament on Oct.23 approved the extension of the Turkish Armed Forces' mission in Lebanon for one more year as part of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) began their mission in Lebanon in 2006, and the mandate has been extended annually by Parliament. The most recent mandate was approved on Oct. 6, 2023, and is set to expire on Oct. 31.
There are 92 Turkish soldiers stationed in Lebanon. The international peace force, established under the UN Security Council's resolution on Aug.11, 2006, comprises over 10,000 soldiers from around 50 countries.
Israel has killed hundreds of civilians in Lebanon and has repeatedly targeted UNIFIL troops in recent weeks, demanding their withdrawal from the country. At least 20 peacekeepers have been injured in these attacks.
