Turkish police have detained the deputy mayor of Istanbul's Şişli district, which is run by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), in an operation targeting the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK).
Cihan Yavuz was detained on Nov. 26 as part of a probe launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Police sought to apprehend 25 suspects and 19 of them were detained in the operation backed by special forces, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Raids were carried out on 28 addresses and a pistol, a spare magazine and 103 bullets were seized.
