The Edirne Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into claims that Turkish soldiers threw a group of 45 migrants into the Maritsa River on Aug. 24 after they were pushed back from Greece, Mesopotamia Agency reported on Sep. 13.
Two attorneys from the Association of Lawyers for Freedom (ÖHD) and an attorney from the Human Rights Association (İHD) accompanied three migrants to the prosecutor's office on Sep. 10, when the latter gave a statement.
One of the migrants was a father whose child had gone missing during the incident, and the attorneys noted that the scope of an investigation should include a search effort to locate any bodies in the river.
Two of the migrants reportedly made a criminal complaint about the incident, attorney Vedat Çağırtekin said.
