Dokuz Eylül University in Turkey's Aegean province of İzmir has launched an investigation into a group of students for performing the traditional halay folk dance to Kurdish music on May 24 at the campus premises.
The university accused the students of undertaking “a provocative action,” Mezopotamya news agency reported on June 20.
The security private personnel at the university campus prevented the students from dancing on the grounds that their action “constituted a security problem.”
The students were protesting a fascist attack targeting another group of Kurdish students for again dancing halay in the southern province of Antalya's Akdeniz University.
