Van research center calms cats in heat with music ahead of breeding season
A research center in eastern Turkey where rare Van cats are held under protection, has started to prepare special mating and birthing rooms, ahead of the cats' breeding period. Music is also being played at the center for the cats to go through this mating season more calmly.
The mating period has started at the "Van Cat Villa," a center established within the body of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University for the protection of rare Van cats.
In the center, music is played for the cats that exhibit aggressive behavior so that they go through this mating period more calmly. Also, special rooms have been prepared for them, Demirören news agency reported on Feb. 8.
Van cats, whose reputation goes beyond the borders of the country with their different eye colors and white fur, are carefully cared for in the center. Van cats, which have visitors every season, impress the guests with their affection.
Efforts are being made to obtain better quality cats at the center every year. Cats in heat are placed in specially prepared birthing and mating rooms. The female cats give birth during the period of April-October.
