Also a stunt artist, Maddison took off on his ride from special platforms set up in Istanbul's Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi neighborhoods, and the strait was temporarily closed off to traffic.

Maddison rode at a 70 kilometers per hour and crossed the Bosphorus in about 90 seconds, becoming the first person to cross the body of water on a motorcycle. 

The 40-year-old rider crossed the strait back after a brief break.

Maddison said that he dreamt of this feat when he first saw the Bosphorus and practiced for a year before attempting it.
