Barzani: Kurdistan flag symbolizes unity, struggle for peace
Iraq's Kurdistan region witnessed celebrations on the occasion of Kurdistan Flag Day on Dec. 17. Senior Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani released a message marking the day, saying: "The flag of Kurdistan symbolizes our unity and struggle for peace, liberty and co-existence."

Masoud Barzani, former president of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), has said that the flag of Kurdistan symbolizes "our unity and struggle for peace, liberty and co-existence” in a message marking the Kurdistan Flag Day.

The Kurdistan parliament officially adopted the flag on Nov. 11, 1999 and later designated December 17 as Kurdistan Flag Day.
The occasion was marked across the region with students, civil servants and private sector employees wearing Kurdish flag pins and traditional clothes decorated in colors of red, yellow and green found on the Kurdistan flag.
Also, an official ceremony was held on the day in Erbil with the attendance of KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and other government officials.
