'Jinping Perinçek' is behind Ankara's silence on China's persecution of Uyghurs: Akşener

Opposition Good (İYİ) Party leader Meral Akşener said that Doğu Perinçek, Maoist-turned leader of the Patriotic Party, was responsible for Ankara's ongoing silence about China's persecution of Uyghurs in East Turkistan.

Blaming Ankara's silence on reports of the mass mistreatment of Uyghurs in China on Perinçek, Akşener said that he had taken President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his alliance partner Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli hostage.

"Chinese Central Committee Turkey Officer, aka 'part-government,' Jinping Perinçek has somehow taken hostage Mister Erdoğan who claims to be a Muslim, and Mister Bahçeli, who claims to be a Turkish nationalist," Akşener said.

Akşener also noted the ruling Peoples' Alliance's "pragmatic and often conflicting policies."

"They'd tell you that they're the biggest Muslims, but they fail to hear the cries of our brothers and sisters who are tortured for saying they're Muslim Turks," Akşener said. 

The İYİ Party leader also noted that Turkey signed an extradition treaty with China in 2017, and wondered if the government could "dare to bring that up in the Foreign Affairs Committee" in parliament. 

"Anyone who does that will have the blood of our brothers and sisters on their hands," Akşener said. 

The leader also called a woman named Nursiman Abduraşid from East Turkistan to the microphone, leading to the official parliament broadcast to be cut off. 

Abduraşid talked about the Uyghurs placed in concentration camps, including her parents and her siblings, and asked the Muslim world and humanity as a whole for help on behalf of her community.
