YSP’s request to renew elections in Gaziantep rejected

Gaziantep Provincial Election Council Presidency has rejected the request of the Green Left Party (YSP) to renew the elections in Gaziantep province.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) back-up party YSP had applied to renew the elections after nearly two thousand people in southeastern Gaziantep province, mostly YSP voters, were unable to vote in the May 14 elections because they had been registered as members of the ballot committee in polling stations on behalf of the Patriotic Party without their knowledge.

Examining the decision, Gaziantep Provincial Election Council Presidency unanimously rejected the request on the grounds of “unreasonable objection,” the daily Evrensel reported on May 18.

Criticizing the decision, YSP’s Gaziantep deputy candidate Sevda Karaca said “The provincial election board declared that it would stand by as a spectator to the usurpation of the citizens' right to vote.”

“Let's say it one more time; The word 'won' declared by the government and its dark partners through irregularity, lawlessness, usurpation of will and theft is null and void. We call on all our citizens to protect our votes and ballot boxes in the second round. Let's show the strength of the people against this organized crime organization,” she added.
