Zeitgeist Turkey | Episode 19: Finance Minister Albayrak's ousting as a move to save the AKP's eroding voter base
In this week's episode, Duvar English Editor-in-chief Cansu Çamlıbel and pollster Can Selçuki dissect the shocking resignation of Turkish Finance Minister Berat Albayrak on Nov. 8, noting that his exclusion from the palace's top ranks could have been a response to the erosion in the vote share of ruling People's Alliance. For the first time in the near past, the opposition's votes have surged to above 50 percent in November.

In this week's episode of Zeitgeist Turkey, Duvar English Editor-in-chief Cansu Çamlıbel and pollster Can Selçuki dissect the unexpected and dramatic resignation of Finance Minister Berat Albayrak on Nov. 8, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's son-in-law and the self-proclaimed "crown prince of Turkey."
November polls reveal a momentous shift in the distribution of votes among Turkey's political parties, Selçuki noted, as the vote share of players outside of the ruling People's Alliance surged above 50 percent, the required threshold to form a government.
Although the circumstances of Albayrak's departure from his post remain unclear, the Zeitgeist Turkey hosts note that Erdoğan's ousting of his son-in-law could have very well been a precaution to stop the bleeding in his voter base.
